iPads in Schools
The iPad is making significant inroads into the UK's schools, mirroring what is happening in the USA.
Official figures from Apple's Phil Schiller are 1.5 million iPads being used in an education setting making use of over 20,000 educational apps.
iBook Author has been a game changer - allowing teachers to create media rich text books on a Mac with an amazingly rich package - pulling together all of the media that could have been captured on an iPad.
Primary schools are finding interactive Apps on the iPad that are finally replacing the tired old multimedia CD's still in use in many of our schools. Children as young as 3 years old are engaged by using iPad - their attention is maintained for longer and they benefit from a media rich experience that encourages exploration.

One to One (1:1) Parental Contribution Schemes
Following the government's cancellation of the Building Schools for the Future programme, UK's secondary schools who suddenly found their new budget slashed were looking for ideas to turn to which would enable them to maintain an acceptable ICT strategy.
Recently, there have been an increasing number of schools turning to parents to support ICT - and the iPad is the perfect device for a 1:1 parent contribution scheme.
Apple's iStudent programme (now renamed Apple Mobile Learning) is one scheme that can be used to transform teaching and learning, raise standards and achievement and liberate learners.
Having consulted over the last 12 months on several of these schemes, I have put together a guide for schools looking to follow this route.

20,000 Education Apps and counting.....
Using the iPad in the classroom is all about finding new Apps - the 69p price point of most Apps means teachers can discover a new 'gem' and make use of it for a few days before moving on to something new.
The Apps section will share new ideas as I come across them in schools - often teachers use Apps in innovative ways - they are doing stuff that the App was never intended to be used for.
